    Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators
    The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) is the largest national specialty organization dedicated to improving patient care and quality of life by defining, enhancing, and promoting the role of oncology nurse and patient navigators. Our organization of over 8,900 members was founded in May 2009 to provide a network for all professionals involved and interested in patient navigation and survivorship care services to better manage the complexities of the cancer care treatment continuum for their patients. We view our organization as one consisting of “professional patient advocates” and, to that end, we support and serve our members.
    Journal of Oncology Navigation & Survivorship
    The Journal of Oncology Navigation & Survivorship (JONS) promotes reliance on evidence-based practices in navigating patients with cancer and their caregivers through diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. JONS also seeks to strengthen the role of nurse and patient navigators in cancer care by serving as a platform for these professionals to disseminate original research findings, exchange best practices, and find support for their growing community.
    The Oncology Nurse-APN/PA
    The Oncology Nurse-APN/PA (TON) provides coverage of the wide spectrum of oncology-related events, trends, news, therapeutics, diagnostics, organizations, and legislation that directly affect hematology/oncology nurses and advanced practitioners involved in healthcare delivery and product utilization. The scope and coverage include a unique presentation of news and events that are shaping the care of patients with cancer.

Sharon S. Gentry, MSN, RN, HON-ONN-CG, AOCN, CBCN

Editor-in-Chief, Conquer: the journey informed

Sharon Gentry was a member of an ongoing successful Breast Nurse Navigator program at the Novant Health Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center. She was part of a team that acted like a seamless thread in community-based care of breast cancer to connect 2 hospitals, a Breast Mammography Clinic, a Regional Cancer Center, a surgical office, and a variety of community resources in Winston-Salem, NC. She received her undergraduate bachelor of science degree in nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her master’s degree in nursing education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She lectures nationally on navigation and/or breast cancer care.

Sharon has been a member of the Oncology Nursing Society since 1983. She was a founding member of the Piedmont Triad Oncology Nurse Chapter in 1988 and has served in a leadership role since its inception through 2019. She was a participant at the inception of the Oncology Nursing Certified Breast Care Nurse (CBCN) examination and actively wrote items for the team as well as co-chaired the Oncology Nursing Certification Breast Care Committee 2010-2012.

Sharon has been a member of the AONN+ Leadership Council since its inception in 2009 and speaks at the organization’s annual and midyear conferences on nurse navigation issues. From 2012 through 2017, she co-chaired the annual AONN+ conferences as well as served on the teams for certification and metrics. Sharon currently sits on the editorial board of The Oncology Nurse-APN/PA and CONQUER: the patient voice and is the breast cancer editor for the Journal of Oncology Navigation & Survivorship (JONS). She has authored several pieces in JONS, Cancer, The Oncology Nurse-APN/PA, Journal of Psychosocial Oncology and CONQUER, as well as chapters in the books Delivering Patient-Centered Care Across the Continuum, Nurse Navigation Case Studies and Team-Based Oncology Care: The Pivotal Role of Oncology Navigation. She also has been instrumental in the development of local navigation networks across the US and internationally. She speaks nationally on the concept of patient navigation. She was a team member for the creation and sustainability of the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators Oncology Nurse Navigator–Certified Generalist (ONN-CG) certification. She holds certification as an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse, Certified Breast Care Nurse, and ONN-CG.
