Foundations and Nonprofit Organizations by Cancer Type

This directory lists the Financial Assistance Programs, available to patients with cancer, organized by specific cancer type.
Brain Cancer

Darren Daulton Foundation

This foundation provides financial assistance to patients with brain cancer, brain tumors, and brain injuries. Applicants must have a diagnosis of brain cancer, brain tumor, brain disease, or brain injury; currently be receiving treatment for the diagnosis; and show financial hardship because of the diagnosis. Benefits are paid directly to companies from bills or statements received from the patients once financial assistance is approved.

Glenn Garcelon Foundation

This foundation provides limited financial assistance up to $1,000 to help with the costs of treatments, medical equipment, respite care, home care, and general living expenses for patients with brain tumors and their families.

Matthew Larson Foundation For Pediatric Brain Tumors

This foundation offers family assistance to anyone age 21 or younger who is currently receiving treatment for a brain tumor. Applications must be completed in full and submitted by a hospital social worker. The foundation only makes payments directly to third-party service providers.

Mission4Maureen

This foundation provides financial assistance to the families of children under age 17 and for adults who have been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The assistance is offered through bill payment on behalf of the family and the patient. Outstanding bills to be covered may include rent, mortgage, utilities, medical bills, credit cards, and more.

Musella Foundation For Brain Tumor Research & Information

This foundation’s Brain Tumor Drug Copayment Assistance Program provides financial assistance to families who need help covering the cost of certain drugs used to treat primary malignant brain tumors (grade 3 or 4). Patients must be insured and either be unemployed (because of the illness) or have an annual income of less than 500% of the federal poverty level.

Smiles For Sophie Forever

This foundation provides grants to families living with childhood brain cancer. Applicants must be a parent or a legal guardian of the diagnosed child, and all applications must be accompanied by the child’s birth certificate or other documentation on guardianship and a letter from the child’s physician. Families may request assistance once yearly.

Breast Cancer

American Breast Cancer Foundation

The American Breast Cancer Foundation provides direct financial assistance to uninsured and underserved women and men of all ages for breast cancer screening and diagnostic tests through the Breast Cancer Assistance Program, Community Partnership Program, and the Community Advocacy Program.

Avon Foundation For Women

The Avon Foundation for Women, specifically through the Avon Breast Health Outreach Program, links medically underserved women to breast health education and screening services. The foundation provides targeted, customized approaches to help low-income, underinsured, and other marginalized populations obtain regular mammograms and clinical breast exams.

Mama Mare Breast Cancer Foundation

This foundation offers the Survivors Thrive Grant Program that benefits patients with breast cancer who have significant financial burdens specifically from medical surgeries, treatments, or hospitalization related to their breast cancer.

My Hope Chest

This national breast reconstruction organization works to fund breast reconstructive surgery for uninsured or underinsured women. Applicants must be 65 years or younger, free of medical complications that would preclude safe surgery, and be able to demonstrate need.

The Pink Fund

The Pink Fund distributes short-term financial aid to patients with breast cancer who have lost all or a part of their income during active treatment after a breast cancer diagnosis or recurrence in the past year. This nonmedical financial assistance supports basic living expenses (including health insurance premiums, mortgage or rent payments, car payments, car insurance, or utilities). Payments are made directly to the patient’s creditors.

Sisters Network, Inc

The Breast Cancer Assistance Program provided by this national African-American breast cancer survivorship organization provides financial assistance for women currently receiving treatment (surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation). The expenses covered include utility bills, rent, mortgage, and medical accessories, such as prostheses, medical bras, and compression arm sleeves.

United Breast Cancer Foundation

For patients who are currently being treated for breast cancer or are within 3 to 10 years of remission, this foundation offers an Individual Grant (for medical, insurance, living, and travel expenses), Holistic Care Grant (for diet and nutritional services, as well as mind-body therapies and treatments), and Breast Reconstruction Grant (for breast reconstructive surgery).

Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal Cancer Alliance

This organization’s Blue Hope Financial Assistance program offers a one-time $200 financial stipend to help cover treatment-related expenses for individuals who are uninsured or underinsured, with a total household income equal to or less than $75,000.

Meredith’s Miracles Colon Cancer Foundation

This organization’s Miracle Granting program awards grants to patients with colon cancer who are 40 years old or younger. Recipients must be referred by a medical professional.

Fertility Preservation

Ferring Reproductive Health Heartbeat Program

This program offers fertility medications at no cost to female patients with cancer who require fertility preservation treatment. Although there are no financial requirements, applicants must not have undergone chemotherapy within the previous 6 months. Oncologist and reproductive endocrinologist are required to determine that fertility preservation treatment is medically appropriate. (Residents of Arkansas, Massachusetts, or New Jersey should call 877-252-0553.)

Gastric Cancer/GIST

GIST Support International

This organization’s Bob Spiegel and Brad Clark Memorial Second Opinion Fund for Travel and Treatment provides financial assistance for needy patients with GIST or their guardians who are traveling to seek a second opinion from a GIST specialist for the treatment of GIST. Covered expenses include travel, meals during travel, lodging, long-distance calls, and parking.

Stomach Cancer Relief Network

This organization offers one-time grants for patients diagnosed with gastric cancer, or for the caregiver of the person with gastric cancer. Grant amounts are based on available funds and can be used for whatever financial needs the patient deems necessary.

Kidney (Renal-Cell) Cancer

American Kidney Fund

This foundation has a number of financial assistance funds available for patients with kidney failure, including the Health Insurance Premium Program and Safety Net Program (for patients on dialysis).

Leukemia

These programs provide financial assistance for patients with lymphoma or multiple myeloma. These programs help patients needing an unrelated donor for a bone marrow or cord blood transplant. The funds pay for costs (including copays) not covered by insurance that may accumulate while searching for a donor and for 12 months after a transplant. Financial aid recipients must meet certain financial eligibility criteria.

Children’s Leukemia Research Association

This organization’s financial assistance programs are open to adults and children with any type of leukemia, with no proof of income required. Medicaid recipients are not eligible. The Co-Pay Assistance Programs help with medical bills, including, but not limited to, office visits, lab tests, chemotherapy, and prescriptions. The maximum assistance to each patient is $3,000. Programs are open every January 1 on a first-come, first-served basis until full.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

This foundation provides financial assistance for patients with leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, or myelodysplastic syndromes. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s patient financial support programs provide limited financial assistance (including financial support toward insurance copayments, insurance premium costs, and travel expenses) to patients with significant financial need who are diagnosed with a blood cancer, such as leukemia, lymphoma, or multiple myeloma.

This foundation’s patient assistance program provides patients with leukemia financial aid in the form of reimbursements for certain expenses that are not covered by insurance companies.

HealthWell Foundation

This independent, nonprofit organization provides financial assistance to patients needing help paying for their co-insurance, copay, and premium payments. Funds availability varies by month. This foundation provides financial aid to patients with different types of cancer, including acute myeloid leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, mantle-cell lymphoma, and myelodysplastic syndromes. This foundation also provides financial assistance to patients who have Medicare Access and 1 of several types of cancer, including breast cancer, gastric cancer, mantle-cell lymphoma, multiple myeloma, melanoma, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, renal-cell carcinoma, and small-cell lung cancer.

Liver Cancer

American Liver Foundation

This foundation has partnered with NeedyMeds to offer the American Liver Foundation Drug Discount Card, which is accepted at more than 63,000 pharmacies. There are no income, insurance, or residency requirements, although the discount card cannot be combined with insurance. However, the discount card may be used instead of insurance.

This foundation’s Patient Aid Grant Program provides limited financial assistance to patients with lymphoma who are uninsured or have adequate medical insurance but struggle to pay for expenses related to their lymphoma treatment. Patients must meet specific financial criteria, and expenses covered include medical bills, transportation costs to get to and from treatment, lodging expenses during treatment, and childcare costs while receiving treatment.

The program assists with any type of medical bill, including office copays, annual deductibles, prescription medication, hospital bills, and healthcare premiums, including COBRA premiums.

Mesothelioma

The Mesothelioma Center

The Mesothelioma Center provides free information and financial assistance for patients with asbestos-related diseases. The Mesothelioma Center helps patients with asbestos-related lung cancer to access trust funds dedicated to those affected by asbestos or mesothelioma. In addition, the team helps guide patients to secure travel, housing, and other treatment-related grants and support groups. For patients exploring possible legal options, the Medical Outreach team explains the process, rights, and other important factors to help ensure the best possible outcome.

Multiple Myeloma

International Myeloma Foundation

The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) sustains a network of more than 150 support groups and offers training for the hundreds of dedicated patients, caregivers, and nurses who volunteer to lead these groups in their communities. In addition, the IMF provides ongoing online updates on its website about financial support available to patients with multiple myeloma through specific foundations.

The Hirshberg Foundation offers limited financial assistance to patients for transportation and treatment costs, home care, pain medication, and childcare through the Hirshberg Pancreatic Program.

National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation

The National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation provides direct financial resources to patients with pancreatic cancer undergoing treatment. The assistance covers basic living expenses. The foundation also offers support groups that meet in person and online, as well as patient advocacy and educational awareness programs.

Pediatric Cancer

Emilio Nares Foundation

Through its numerous services, the Emilio Nares Foundation helps direct families through their child’s journey with cancer, and supports each child’s recovery. Services offered by the Emilio Nares Foundation include financial aid, access to information and trained staff members in the resource center, and the foundation’s flagship program, Ride With Emilio, which offers underprivileged children and their parents transportation assistance in getting to and from the hospital for cancer-related visits.

Sarcoma

Sarcoma Alliance

This foundation’s Hand in Hand: The Suzanne R. Leider Memorial Assistance Fund helps patients with sarcoma by offering financial assistance for second opinion consultations by reimbursing expenses related to travel, phone bills, costs of the evaluation, and related expenses. The current grant maximum is $1,000.
