A Walk on Nature’s Path

Pattie Dorf created a painting of two people walking through the woods that expresses her feeling that “our life can create the choices we make with illness”

Walking on nature’s path, or one of our own making, is one of life’s pleasures to help us to live life to the fullest, caring for others and for ourselves. The smells of nature, the feeling of the freshness of the air, the sounds of the wind, the animals, and the sight of the glorious colors all bring joy to our hearts and mind. Finding happiness despite the clouds may strengthen our souls to the limit of our endurance. Walking along nature’s path brings us back to the beauty and pleasures of our lives. The path in my painting expresses my feeling that our life can create the choices we make with illness.

My cousin died of cancer several years ago. She had breast cancer and had both breasts removed by surgery. After that she did very well for many years, until cancer reappeared, this time in her groin. She received many types of cancer therapies, but her phone calls were always positive and cheerful, even as she fought for her life. My cousin loved being outdoors while she fought cancer. I now spend many hours volunteering in a hospital setting near a cancer ward.
